I;ve never had a problem with any of the laptops I've used (primarily Toshiba) though I've also used HP Omnibooks. Just check the specs of the laptop and make sure the components are supported.

I used the 4.8-Rel ISO image to build my laptop. It is an older Thinkpad though.

I actually have a few 2100CDT's I;ve loaded FreBSD from, I've always had to load from floppies. Then again, I almost always do a ftp install anyways.

I've never had a problem with FreeBSD on the laptops I've had. I've had various versions of 4.x on a Toshiba Satelite Pro 4300, and I curently have 5.1 on a Toshiba Satelite 4600 with no problems.

The great thing about the 4300 was that it had a lucent winmodem that you could use with the ltmodem driver. Nice to be able to use the modem from a laptop in FreeBSD.

Both booted the ISOs no problem.

4.7 wouldnt boot....nor would 4.8. I stuck in 5.1 and it booted. I will try and load it tomorrow. Wonder what will happen when I get to configure my Xircom PCMCIA.

I have a question regarding Freebsd and laptops. I've installed 4.x on a number of laptops and I never ran into any real problems. For the first time I thought it would be nice to use the external keyboard. Froze the system at logon.
Remove keyboard reboot...no problems. Add keyboard..frozen.
This is just a standard ps/2 keyboard on a compaq e500. Anyone know off hand what I have to modify to get that external keyboard going?
Thanks

Update on the keyboard problem. It only freezes during logon. If I plug it in after logon it works.
