Once you post news and it gets accepted, the poster can go back and edit the news, and it will edit the front page. Hence, I could add a bunch of "SE SUCKS" into my 5.3beta2 news article, and it would come up on the front page. Perhaps the person who approves the message for the front page could take ownership of it?

Good point! We can set it so that you can't edit posts in those forums. Which might be the best option.
