I have a Belkin F5D7050 USB wireless adapter that I am trying to use as an access point for my new network. The dmesg looks like this:
ugen0 at uhub0 port 1
ugen0: Belkin Belkin 54g USB Network Adapter, rev 2.00/0.01, addr 2
From what I understand I am supposed to be getting something about ural or ral0. Does anyone know whats going on? I am using OpenBSD 3.8 (cd).

I looked around at some dmesgs for 3.7/3.8 and they show ural0 with the same revision of wireless card. Hmmmm. Have you tried it in a different USB port.

yeah strog i tried it in a different port. I am installing another test box, with obsd 3.8 to see if it is the system hardware itself. I should be done in an hour of so.

No go on the new box. I plugged the usb wifi adapter into a windows machine and it started up fine. Do you think i need to change, or add some things to the kernel in order for it to correctly identify the device?

full dmesg might be useful.
It's also possible that the chipset in the device has changed while the product number hasn't.
You shouldn't need to change or add anything to the kernel, GENERIC should see it.

the man pages say that ugen is the generic usb driver. i really don't know whats wrong with it. I tried it on several machine and still no joy. i am thinking of loading up debian or SuSE real quick to see if they properly identify it.

Looks like you have it plugged into a usb 1.0 port, possibly OpenBSD requires it to be in a usb2.0 port?

Ah so. Let me try another machine and grab a dmesg off of it to be sure.

I tried on another box with a 2.0 USB port and got the same response:

I am at a lose as to where to go from here. I originally intended on using the HostAP function to create a simple wifi router for my internal network.

I am thinking something changed in the chipset and they never updated the documentation.

Just for kicks, try booting off a recent snapshot. If that doesn't work, then send the dmesg into misc@ along with a description of your problem. Right now it sounds like a changed chipset.
