" Wasabi Systems Introduces Wasabi Storage Builder64(TM); Initial Reference Designs of True 64-bit Storage Area Network Solution Optimized for AMD64 Technology-Based Processors
Storage Networking World Spring 2006
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 2006--Wasabi Systems today introduced Wasabi Storage Builder64(TM), a true 64-bit storage area network software solution for IP-SAN appliances. Wasabi Storage Builder64 is based upon the 64-bit Wasabi Certified(TM) BSD, a state-of-the-art, high performance, small footprint OS for network devices and storage appliances.
"Storage Builder64 is the next step in the evolution of Wasabi's IP-SAN software solutions," said Frank G. Logan, Wasabi's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We are taking advantage of the substantial gains in processing power and memory addressing supported by these high performance processor designs. We will announce the introduction of several commercially available Storage Area Network products from key Wasabi partners in the very near future."
Wasabi Certified BSD is optimized specifically for 64-bit processors, including AMD Opteron(TM) and AMD Athlon(TM) 64 processors. It supports 32- and 64-bit applications running side-by-side, delivering excellent performance while allowing unprecedented hardware scalability, both in terms of processors per system and from single- to multi-core.
Wasabi has collaborated with AMD to optimize several initial reference platforms from Tyan, SuperMicro, MSI and Win-Enterprises.
"AMD is seeing significant adoption in the network storage space and has been working with Wasabi to bring a new level of performance and efficiency to the small to medium enterprise storage segment," said David Rich, director of 64-bit Embedded Markets, AMD. "AMD64 technology is a natural fit in the storage space, where swift data movement is a key concern. AMD addresses the needs of next-generation storage systems designers with long-term component availability, outstanding scalability and most importantly, the high-bandwidth, low-latency I/O offered by HyperTransport(TM) technology. Wasabi has an excellent reputation in the market and we look forward to announcing mutual design wins based upon our joint validation efforts."
Key features of Wasabi Storage Builder64 include:
-- Support for large volumes of up to 1,024 terabytes
-- Enhanced virtualization capability
-- S.M.A.R.T drive threshold reporting
-- E-mail notification
-- WasabiRAID support for SCSI, SAS, SATA and SATA-II with NCQ
-- iSCSI ERL 0,1 & 2 advanced error recovery
-- Multiple Connections per Session (MC/S) support"
