Yes, I was given a credit card and a budget to buy some books. hehe

So, im compiling a list of books that I want to buy and wanted to get other recommendations here as well.

My budget is no more than $600 bucks.

On my list, for now:

-Snort 2.0 book
-SSH, The Secure Shell

But I need more.

Anyone wanna share their list of books they highly recommend?

I should mention I have a couple books on Perl, Samba, DNS, LDAP and PHP...what other goodies should I get?!!??!?!

Essential System Administration, O'Reilly, Aileen Frisch
Covers lots of stuff about the title. It's like a bible.

The Code Book, SImon Singh
Good intro to the history of cyphers, and very fun to read.

Unix Shell Programming, Stephen Kochan and Patrick Wood
My coworker says it's the best.

Any/all of the O'Reilly cookbooks. They contain very useful code samples to work off of.

Mastering Regular Expressions, O'Reilly
Way more than you'll ever need to know about regex's, until you need to know it.

Watchmen, Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons
It's just a really good story. Do they all have to be computer related?

Ah yyes, that Stevens book is very good. It's like a bible almost.

I have the Building Internet Firewalls book. (Forgot to mention it)
Wouldn't ya know it, they release a new version of the Unix Shell Programming, 3rd edition. I have second. :)

Practicle Unix and Internet Security is added to my list as well as Computer networks.

Essential System Administration is added as is Mastering Regular expressions.

So many books!!

Its cool though. I like O'Reilly books, they seem to be pretty well put together.

What about database stuff? I'd really like to get more into database development and head towards other areas like data mining and data warehousing....any suggestions?

Lastly, any other books to go along with my snort book?

Thanks guys!

I just saw that one today on a mailing list. ADDED!

Also, I saw this book today. Anyone heard of it?

I'm thinking of adding a few database books as well as other recommendations on this list.

Keep them coming if you can. :)
