Just wanted to get some feedback on what version of Apache everyone recommends here...

You ahve 1.3 and 2.x

Anyone wanna share what they think, as well as the pros and cons of each version?

Secondly, what books on Apache are recommended?

I myself run 1.3.28, but since PHP 5 beta is comming out it probably has perfectly fine support for Apache 2, on books, read alot on httpd.conf and man pages and anything by O'reilly is usually god...

Its really up to you, I also run 1.3.28 since its the stable one. We have a test server here running 2.x and I personally have not had any issues to date.
